Suigyo & Sauna
( Japanese Cold Water Training )
In Japan, cold water immersion and standing under waterfalls has been practiced by martial artists and religious ascetics for at least 1400 years.
Participants are trained in abdominal breathing and chanting to reduce the stress response and deepen the benefits.
This session will introduce the participants to the breathing method and show how to adapt the breathing for both sauna and plunge. There will also be an opportunity to try head dowsing - this is the traditional Japanese alternative to waterfall training.
The session leader John Evans is a 7th Dan teacher of Japanese Swordsmanship and instructor of Tanren (Mind-Body conditioning).
John has been training in martial arts, yoga and cold water practices for over 40 years.
To ensure maximum access to the abdominal breathing, participants are asked to fast for at least 10 hours before the session (and ideally 24 hours).
Before dowsing the head with cold water you are asked to avoid alcohol for 48 hours before the session.
Please book through the Revitalise website and also fill in the online questionnaire linked there and if you want to try the head dowsing on the day please bring a 3 litre plastic jug with you.
